How to Save on Baby Clothing

Although having a baby in the family can really be very rewarding, it is also very expensive and can add up to the expenses in every family’s budget. There would be additional costs for food, vitamins, and other baby equipment such as strollers and cribs. So how do you save on cost without sacrificing the primary needs of your baby? The trick is to look for baby clothing that are affordable yet comfortable for your little one. Here are a few tips on how to do it:

  1. Ask friends or relatives if they have used baby clothing. Babies grow quickly, and as such, go through clothes at an unbelievable rate. They may have kept these used clothing after their babies have outgrown them. Remember that most babies will be bigger for their clothes before those clothes actually wear out. Most parents are indeed happy to pass along the clothes that no longer fit their baby, especially as a means of making room for the next batch of clothes that they’ll be buying.
  2. Another great way to find some gently used baby clothing is through charity thrift shops. These great little stores often have loads of outfits for infants and toddlers, and sell them at greatly reduced prices from retail. After you’ve gotten a great deal, do not forget to run these “recycled” baby clothing through your washing machine to make sure that they are clean. Also, shopping at a charity shop can also help you to make a donation to an important community service organization while making sure that you find the best clothes for your baby.
  3. Shop clothes online. Ebay and Craigslist have a lot of “baby clothes lot” listings. The advantage of buying on Ebay is that you can find great deals for bidding and you can check the credibility of the seller through the feedback score. However, there are usually many bidders and buyers on the lookout for cheap baby clothes and they bid till the last minute so it can be quite a challenge. Craigslist, on the other hand, offers a lot of listings but you’re going to contact the seller to request more images. If you’re lucky, you can even buy a lot of used baby clothing for as low as $1. These sellers are usually those who just want to get rid of their stuffs and don’t have the time to list the clothes individually on Ebay.
  4. You can also make or sew baby clothing yourself. Although, there’s some skill required in order to do it well, this skill is something that can be acquired. In fact, sewing can be more beneficial when you’re still expecting because it has proven to be very relaxing, helping to calm frayed, tired nerves that often develop when you’re pregnant.

Having a baby in the family can surely add up to the expense but knowing the different ways on how to save on baby clothing would allow you to still provide your baby’s basic needs without hurting your budget too much.
